    a research section devoted to nursing, nursing resources and information on funding for research

  • National Institute of Nursing Research
    This organization's mission is to support research in nursing in clinical and community settings through grants and other funding programs.

  • Pubmed
    This resource is a service of the NML and offers an index of citations from Medline for biomedical articles from the 1950s, including nursing.

  • Pubmed Central (PMC)
    A free archive of life sciences journals

  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
    Your online source for specific health and safety topics, a public health image library, state and national data sets on health and disease, and an index to find statistical and other information on specific conditions.

    a consumer health information site; a directory of health related Web sites of more than 1500 government, nonprofit, and educational organizations

  • MedlinePlus
    a health resource that brings together information from various government agencies. It contains a medical encyclopedia, drug and herbal supplement information, current health news, and superior interactive tutorials, excellent resources for nursing students.

    This organization provides a broad range of information and support to the medical community and family of those affected by this disease.

  • HIV InSite: Gateway to AIDS Knowledge
    Comprehensive, up-to-date information on HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and policy from the University of California, San Francisco.

Nongovernmental portals:

  • Hardin MD
    The “MD” stands for “Meta Directory” and the University of Iowa’s Hardin Library for the Health Sciences is one of the best and most complete directories for medical and health-related links. Searchable by keyword or “Subject Clusters,” Hardin MD offers a huge, up-to-date collection of medical images and information.

  • Mayo Clinic
    This plethora of information is a boon for nurses and students. "Diseases & Conditions," "Drugs & Supplements," "Treatment Decisions," and "Health Tools," is only a selection of resources available.

  • Online Journal of Issues in Nursing (OJIN)';
    OJIN is a free, peer-reviewed, international journal addressing topics affecting nursing practice, research, education, and the wider health care sector.

    The American Medical Association (AMA) offers resources and information about medical ethics, including their own "Virtual Mentor".
